Skiing at Bödele

Bödele-Schwarzenberg ski area

The Bödele ski area is the ideal place for beginners and experts.

“Bödele”, with the 1,487 metre high Hochälpelekopf peak, is a picturesque Alpine region with rustic cabins. In winter, locals and visitors flock to the ski area with reliable snow conditions, ten lifts and slopes from easy to challenging. In 1987, Bödele even hosted a Ladies’ Ski World Cup race. The panoramic view over Bregenzerwald and Rheintal Valley as far as Lake Constance is breathtaking. The welcoming ski huts with a nostalgic atmosphere, inns and hotels are great places to take a break from the skiing fun.

Bödele is well known for its kids’ skiing lessons. At Skischule Schwarzenberg many youngsters quickly learn to carve through the snow in four individual lessons using the Magic Wand method. Skischule Bödele also guarantees that children will receive a stress-free introduction to skiing in two private lessons.

History

Bödele, once the summer settlement of a textile businessman from Dornbirn, made skiing history. Vorarlberg-based skiing pioneer Viktor Sohm organised ski tours here as early as the late 19th century. Ski jumping competitions began in 1904 – initially on a simple ski jump hill, and subsequently on the Lankschanze ski jump. In 1907, one of the first ski lifts in the Alps started running at “Bödele”. It wasn’t a lift as we know them today, it was a kind of sled pulled up the mountain by a motorised rope.
