“uf m Tannberg” Alpine museum in Schröcken

Early life at mountain farms, the “Ancient craftsmanship of mountain farmers” exhibition

The Alpmuseum, which is housed in the old Batzen cheesemaking operation at 1,570 m, provides lasting impressions about life in former times at mountain pastures and the cultural history of the Walser people.

The exhibition at the mountain hut with its typical facilities is a journey back in time. The most important topics are the Alpine dairy and craftsmanship. The inventory of the former estate features a historic cheesemaking kitchen, a parlour and the barn. Viewing historical equipment, guests can learn about the former occupants of the farm and daily life.

The Alpmuseum was opened in September 2002 as part of the “International year of the mountains.” The mountain hut was build some 400 years earlier by the Walser people, who settled in the Tannberg and Arlberg area. The mountain pasture was operated until the end of the 19th century.
