Kunsthaus Bregenz

Kunsthaus Bregenz

Thanks to its architecture and programme offering, the Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB) is amongst the most outstanding art museums in all of Europe. Changing exhibitions are always on display.

The Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB), a building constructed by famous Swiss Architect Peter Zumthor, first opened its doors in 1997. Peter Zumthor won the 1998 ‘Mies van der Rohe’ Award for European Architecture for his work on the Kunsthaus. In 2009, he was also honoured with the Pritzker prize, one of architecture’s most important awards.

This cube-shaped building with its glass facade is centrally located just metres from the shores of Lake Constance. The Landestheater Vorarlberg (state theatre) and the vorarlberg museum are located in the neighbourhood. The KUB features changing exhibitions throughout the year and often the work of a single artist is featured over three floors. Artists typically react to the building’s architecture or try to achieve a symbiosis. For this reason, most of the displayed works are created in the building itself and are tailor made. During each exhibition, the limits of the possible seem to shift anew.

Programmes

  • Artist lectures, dialogue-driven guided tours, and presentations are regularly on the programme.
  • Public guided tours take place numerous times during the week.
  • Architectural tours and exhibition visits are often combined with lunches or cocktails in the KUB café.
  • Kids’ workshops take place on Saturdays while family tours take place on Sundays.
